Welcome! I am honored that you have chosen Colon Hydrotherapy as part of your healthy lifestyle.

I currently offer consultations, detoxification planning, and colon hydrotherapy by appointment.

I believe that every body’s needs vary greatly. The number of colon hydrotherapy sessions I will recommend depends on many factors. A complete colon cleanse may include anywhere from 3 to 12 sessions and supportive lifestyle changes. Most people start with 3 sessions. I believe that the best results come from a plan that is tailored to each individual. Please let me know what you want to achieve.

Individual colon hydrotherapy sessions are $70.

Save by buying 3 for $195

30 minute planning consultations are $40.

Missed appointments not cancelled with 24 hour notice will be charged in full.

To Prepare For a Colon Hydrotherapy Session:

To maximize the benefits of colon hydrotherapy I recommend a simple cleansing day (or more) prior to your appointment. You may follow my Cleansing Day routine or one of your own. Think about it as a vacation for your body!

-Avoid anything that you already know is disruptive to your digestive system. This may include allergens, and anything that gives you gas or indigestion.

- Do not eat for 2 hours prior to your appointment. This allows you system to be somewhat at rest during the session.

After your Session:

I may have specific recommendations for you. However, I give the following recommendations to almost every client:

More Water Pure, filtered water without carbonation is best. Distilled is even better. You should drink as many ounces as half your weight in pounds. (If you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink 100 ounces of water each day.) Increase that amount if you work out or drink anything caffeinated.

Flax Fiber It is a wonderful fiber that cleanses the wall of the colon, gives those colon muscles something to push against (aiding peristalsis), and adds omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids (helping to heal the colon wall). It is superior to psyllium seed fiber, which most fiber supplements are made of. You can mix ground flax seeds into smoothies or juice or milk, or sprinkle it on any food. My favorite is Garden of Life’s Super Seed which also has ground sprouted legumes and grains giving it some protein content. It also has probiotics, which most of us need more of.

Green Foods Adding green food and super green food supplements can give you a major boost of needed nutrition. Supplementing with a green food mix is essential. There are many fine products available in your health food store. Look for one that includes spirulina, wheat and barley juice, chlorella, and algae or kelp. Two of my favorites are Dr. Schulze’s SuperFood (800-HERB-DOC to order) and Garden of Life’s Perfect Food (available locally) which also has added probiotics.

Detox and the Environment

There has been a lot of attention on the health of our environment. Mainstream media is finally speaking about the perils of our natural resources due to modern culture. Our inattention has cost us.
The same situation is happening within the bodies of most Americans. And it is not an unrelated issue. The toxins produced by our chemical-dependent culture are ruining our state of health.
You have heard the phrase, "think globally, act locally". There is not a more local place to start than your own body.
For some, it may be a daunting task: facing the fact that we all are full of toxic chemicals and ingesting hundreds more each day. I hope to share some ideas that will make this task a bit easier. I do not think it will help most of us to worry about each and every toxic substance we encounter. Instead, raising our awareness a bit at a time, and acting little by little to limit these toxins, we can hopefully give our bodies, and our environment, a much needed hand up.
First, let's look at some of the most common pollutants in our immediate environment:
aerosols
air fresheners
carpet
paint
household cleaners
perfume and cologne
detergents
personal care products
heating/cooling systems
All of these products contain chemical ingredients that are toxic to the body. Many of them have been shown to cause cancer. The majority of these chemicals have never been tested for safety. And yet they are filling our homes.
In the past, disease was always blamed on bacterial or viral infection. We have been made to believe that we must clean our homes, our carpets, our counter tops, and our bodies, with toxic chemicals in order stay free of these bacteria and virus enemies. Our culture is afraid of the slightest mess or smell.
Unfortunately, the toxins in these products build up in the body over time. Our bodies' natural detoxification systems are overburdened, and cannot handle the overload of chemical toxins. They are stored in our bodies, wreaking silent havoc.
There are two issues here: The debilitating toxins in our environment, and the strength of the body's detoxification and immune system. In order to heal and prevent chronic illness and disease, we must make changes both inside and out.
First, I recommend a gradual replacement of commercial personal care products with natural or organic versions. This doesn't have to happen all at once. Next time something runs out, replace it with a natural product.
Do the same with cleaning products. I promise that natural cleansers work just as well as the harsh chemical cleansers. Natural cleaning is a booming business, offering us many alternatives.
If you feel that you can't afford to purchase natural products, try using baking soda, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide.

Next, we will take a look at making changes to the internal environment. I recommend a cleanse to just about everyone. A cleanse can be as simple or as involved and thorough as one wishes. It does not need to be a fast, it does not even need to be exclusively liquid. It can be three days or 21 days.
I focus on eliminating toxins, and any other substance that interferes with the natural cleansing and detox system of the body (any allergen or processed food or drink). Exclude processed starch (anything with flour), sugar, alcohol, caffeine (be sure to gradually come off of this). Think about it as a vacation for your body. It doesn't mean you are giving up chocolate or wine forever. It is a break. It is an opportunity for your body to get ahead.
During your cleansing period, include as many leafy greens as you can. They supply nutrients and fiber. Both are essential to cleansing.
Essentially, you should be eating foods in the form closest to how they exist naturally: Whole corn on the cob instead of corn chips, brown rice instead of rice pudding. You get the idea.
I also recommend adding a few key supplements that will help the body to detox:
A cleansing supplement kit is an easy way to know you are getting what you need. I have recently used Garden of Life's Perfect Cleanse kit. It is simple to follow (all the supplements are taken in the evening) and does not contain harsh laxatives. I found it to be very effective.
As always, I recommend using probiotic supplements and flax fiber. Both support a healthy digestive tract, which is the root of healthy detoxification.
Receiving colon hydrotherapy during the cleansing period will produce even better results. Toxins will be removed at a faster pace, relieving the body of the burden and assisting in the detoxification.
If you do not receive colonics, be sure that you are having at least two bowel movements a day during this time. As toxins are released into the colon, it is imperative that they leave the body. Otherwise, they will be reabsorbed into the blood stream and sent back to the liver for processing, again.
I recommend that this type of cleanse is followed at least twice a year.
These changes will not only give you a chance at a disease-free future, but will also afford you the immediate benefits of more energy, clearer skin, less aches and pains, and more joy.
Remember, do as much as you can so that you feel good. If your plan is adding more stress to your life, take a step back and reevaluate. The path to health and wellness is different for each of us. If we each take that path, ours will be a happier and healthier future.

Release and Rebuild

Taking all of the nutritional supplements off the shelf cannot heal you if you are filled with toxic waste. The first step toward health is releasing the poison that is making you ill.

When waste moves through the colon at a slow pace, toxic substances are reabsorbed through the permeable colon wall, causing autointoxication. The poisons travel back through the body and are processed by the liver. When a person is not optimally healthy, the liver is burdened by these toxins. The body cannot then deal with other immunity issues. Even the common cold can cause a major state of illness. Allergies may emerge. A state of mental depression may occur as a result of this self-poisoning.

The first step is to cleanse the colon. Colon hydrotherapy is the best tool we have to do this internal cleansing. It immediately hydrates and loosens the waste that has accumulated in the colon.

Next, I give every client the same three suggestions: more water, more fiber, and probiotics. These supplements will help keep the bowel functioning properly. When the bowel is functioning properly, we can begin to rebuild the integrity of the colon wall with increased nutrition.

Drinking pure water is the easiest change you can make in your life. Replace the coffee (most of it, anyway), the soft drinks (all of them), and other caffeinated drinks, with plain old water. The entire body depends on the miracle of pure healthy water.

Increasing fiber in the diet is another easy solution that will ease many intestinal issues. The colonic muscles that move waste though the tract work more efficiently when they push against the fiber that is passing through. It is pure physics: when you have something to push against, the strength of your movements is increased. Insoluble fiber also acts as a brush, cleansing the many folds and bends of the inner colon wall. Eat one green salad every day. Supplement with high quality fiber products. My favorite is Garden of Life’s “Super Seed”. Keep in mind that insoluble and soluble fibers are both important.

Probiotics are living organisms that exist in a fragile balance within our bodies. “Bad” bacteria can over run our gastrointestinal tract if we do not supply enough probiotics in our diet. Eating yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, and other fermented foods can help. Most people also need a great supplement. The fiber supplement I mentioned, “Super Seed”, contains probiotics. Garden of Life’s “Primal Defense” is an excellent addition. Probiotics help the gastrointestinal tract function properly and promote healthy immune function.

The additional nutrition that is needed to achieve health is different for every body. But these basic supplements are a great start: Omega 3 DHA’s from good quality non-toxic fish oil; green foods such as spirulina, chlorella, and cereal grasses; sprouted grains and legumes; and berries and other high-antioxidant fruits like pomegranate and acai.

As you begin to release the toxic waste that has burdened your body, you will feel that making the nutritional changes becomes easier. You will begin to know what it feels like to be well!

Helen M. Mahoney is a Colon Therapist with 7 years of experience in cleansing, body detoxification, and wellness. Her passion for natural cleansing developed after she healed her own body with the help of colon hydrotherapy and proper nutrition. She has seen firsthand the amazing effects that colon hydrotherapy and detoxification can have on allergies, back and joint pain, hormonal imbalances, metabolism and sugar issues, and other serious illness and disease. She has made it her mission, both professionally and personally, to teach others that optimum health is attainable.

Helen’s path with colon hydrotherapy and natural healing began in 2000. She worked alongside an expert colon therapist in Santa Barbara for several years, learning the importance of bowel cleansing. Simultaneously, Helen assisted a naturopath and chiropractor in his busy practice. She saw clients with an array of diseases, including autism, Parkinson’s, severe allergies, and hormone dysfunction. Helen witnessed the powerful effects of homeopathy, herbs, body alignment, and nutrition. She also attended the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute in 2002 and was trained in Swedish Massage and Polarity Therapy. In 2006 Helen was further trained in colon hydrotherapy at the Institute for Life Extension in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has since been a certified I-ACT member.

Helen’s philosophy stems from the belief that the body knows how to heal itself. She believes that cleansing the body is foundational to health, as it gives the body strength to heal existing disease or to prevent future illness.

However, Helen understands that it is not always easy to know what the body needs.

"With the myriad of options available, finding the pieces that will bring us to our healthiest state is often a confusing process. The best way to start is to cleanse the body."

You are NOT your diagnosis!

I recently talked to a friend who has been suffering from a mystery illness for months. It started slowly, mostly in the form of dull aches and pains. Her immunity also seemed weak. I was saddened as she told me how relieved she was to finally be diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was grateful to know what was wrong with her. She felt that she could finally rest.
I have noticed how humans love a diagnosis. It is as if we need to title, organize and catalog our experiences. It does not always mean that the diagnosis is the whole truth, however. And yet, the finality of a name somehow satisfies our psyche.
I first learned this quirk in a college chemistry class. I was listening to a lecture on a theory regarding the structure of molecules. I was fiercely taking notes, copying the pictures my professor was sketching. At the end of his 90 minutes, he says to us, "Now this is not a real representation of how these molecules look, it is just a way that we can describe them so that we can understand them better." I left that lecture hall laughing aloud! I drew pictures for over an hour of something that does not even exist!
Somehow, it makes us feel more secure if we can label something and imagine a picture of it in our minds. Leaving mystery unsolved just is not in our realm of being.
I do not mean to elude to the idea that my friend should not have sought a diagnosis. Quite the contrary. I believe in the search for greater understanding. However, I wonder if we should ever settle our search on the first explanation that seems plausible. I believe that there is always a possibility that there is more than one answer.
I feel that there is some danger in our addiction to diagnoses, especially when it comes to our health. We have names now for every combination of symptoms possible. And we are left believing that if we have a set of symptoms, then we have a disease. When people have disease, they often become their disease. They identify so much with it that they cannot separate from it. My friend, for instance, has rested her search for answers. In the case of arthritis, there are often many causes underlying. If she rests now, she may never find the reason she is experiencing the arthritis symptoms, and she may never recover her health.
Go ahead and label. Heck, I even own a high tech label maker. But when it comes to your health, do not stop once you have that label. You are not the sum of your symptoms. The symptoms are messengers, telling you, if you dare to listen, what lies beneath. There are many answers, all of which will lead you to a healthier and more vibrant life!

Are you ready to feel great?
The journey to wellness starts with a desire to get better.
I believe that each body is capable of being well. I recommend that you begin by studying your present state of wellness: How do you feel? What ailments do you have? What has caused them?
Often, the answers to these questions are complicated. The best way to start your journey is to stop doing what has made you sick. Stop smoking cigarettes, stop overeating, stop making destructive choices. Now, start making some positive changes. Start walking every day, start eating more raw vegetables, start drinking more water.
When you begin with small changes, they are easier to stick with. Do not try to overhaul your entire life in one day. The changes will never last. Try being gentle with yourself. How much change can you handle?
After you have mastered a few positive changes, add another. Keep adding until you feel great!

Who benefits from Colon Hydrotherapy?

Anyone who feels that they are not at their optimum level of health can benefit from colon hydrotherapy. When debris sits in the colon, it leads to autointoxication, which is essentially "self-poisoning". The toxins that are by-products of every cellular action of the body's normal functions, as well as the foreign toxins that we ingest, are released primarily through the colon. In today's culture, every one of us is pushing our natural detoxification system to some degree of excess. When our system is overburdened, we autointoxicate. Some symptoms may include, but are not limited to:

Insomnia

Depression

Allergies & Asthma

Irritability

Menstrual Discomfort

Candida Infection

Headaches

Fatigue

Pain

Bad Breath

Irritable Bowels

Constipation, Diarrhea & Bloating

Anxiety and Tension

Colon hydrotherapy can alleviate such symptoms as it flushes and hydrates the entire body.

In addition, the muscles that control proper bowel function are exercised during the treatment. Over time, the muscles become well toned, helping to restore regularity.
